This WP covers the selection of paint materials to be investigated and the preparation and artificial ageing of reference models, and the identification of case-studies. The reference materials will be used to prepare paint models representative of the most common situations in contemporary murals. Artificial ageing protocols will be set-up and carried out on the reference samples to simulate long-term outdoor exposure, including solar irradiation, thermal excursion effects, and rain washout. Outdoor natural ageing tests will be also carried out.
5 to 10 case studies differing from each other for constituent materials, exposure conditions and conservation issues will be identified in collaboration with stakeholders and with the help of the MiBACT conservation institutes. The selection of the murals will be based on their state of conservation, social impact, and accessibility.
